Le Havre is a remarkable city deeply influenced by modernist thought; however, the austere waterfront does not serve the work of Auguste Perret.
The first part of the work was to restore quality to the waterfront by redesigning the circulation and the promenade. The diving school is part of this urban planning effort to bring activity and create an iconic building.
The project draws an analogy with the cliff, exploring a raw architecture where spaces carve into the mass and allow light to reveal the thickness of the material. The project is set on the sea, offering interplay with the tides, the musicality of the water, and the reflections of the sun on it.
To reach the diving pool, one must ascend through circulation spaces resembling a cave, which wrap around the central void and bring light to the ground floor.
